Roma is doing everything it can to sign Greenwood: smart deal with Marseille in the making
AS Roma wants to complete the arrival of Mason Greenwood this month and is working on a structure that will ensure that Marseille complies with UEFA rules and benefits optimally. By acting quickly, Roma can sign the English attacker relatively cheaply, with a salary of 4.5 million euros per year for Greenwood.
AS Roma is currently in the process of acquiring Mason Greenwood this transfer summer. The club from the Italian capital has, according to Corriere dello Sport, come up with a smart payment plan to accommodate Marseille while respecting UEFA's financial requirements.
Roma is ready to make a direct payment of 15 to 20 million euros to Olympique Marseille before June 30. The remaining amount—a total of 35 million euros, consisting of a fixed amount and bonuses—would then be paid in further installments. This approach will allow Marseille to record the full amount in the 2026 financial year, helping them meet UEFA's capital requirements and avoid potential sanctions.

Two factors are causing a rush to complete the deal: Marseille must post capital gains before June 30 to meet UEFA conditions. In addition, the buyout fee for Greenwood will increase to 60 million euros from July, making a quick deal more beneficial for Roma.
Currently, Marseille wants to see at least 50 million euros guaranteed plus 5 million euros in possible bonuses. A significant part of the transfer fee, namely 40 percent, is intended for Greenwood's former club Manchester United, which significantly limits Marseille's actual profit.
The English forward has already reached a personal agreement with Roma on a multi-year contract worth 4.5 million euros net per year, plus performance bonuses. Trainer Gian Piero Gasperini plays an active role in this transfer and is in frequent contact with Greenwood, who has now indicated that he will ignore other options as long as the deal with Roma is in the pipeline.
