Bristol Rovers strengthens with Ciaran Kelly

Bristol Rovers have signed defender Ciaran Kelly on a two-year deal following his departure from Bradford City.

Bristol Rovers have signed former Bradford City defender Ciaran Kelly on a two-year deal. The 27-year-old Irishman was dismissed by the Bantams at the end of the season after 94 games in a three-and-a-half year spell. He was part of the Bradford team that achieved promotion to League One last season and has previously played in his homeland for clubs including Bohemians, Ballymena United and St Patrick's.

“My patience has finally been rewarded and I am very pleased that Ciaran has signed,” manager Steve Evans told the club website. "I often thought the boy might go somewhere else and he must have thought I was following him, given my interest. Ciaran is a strong centre-back, a real professional and a real competitor. He had a range of options this summer, including some big names in the Scottish Premier League, so I'm delighted he chose us."

Kelly is the sixth new player to join Rovers this summer, while Evans looks to revamp his squad after guiding the club to safety in League Two.
