DR Congo come back to beat Uzbekistan 3-1, with two goals from Yoane Wissa, and will meet England in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Yoane Wissa scored twice as DR Congo came from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1 and qualify for the round of 32 of the World Cup. The African nation, returning to the tournament after a 52-year absence, will now face England in the knockout stages on Wednesday after finishing third in Group K.
Uzbekistan's Eldor Shomurodov opened the scoring in the 10th minute in Atlanta by scoring from a difficult angle after Abbosbek Fayzullaev's header in the penalty area. DR Congo thought they would equalize a few minutes later when Nathanael Mbuku delivered a shot with his left leg. However, this goal was disallowed after review, as the referee ruled that Mbuku Sherzod had hit Nasrullaev in the face with a swinging arm in the build-up.
DR Congo eventually leveled in the second half when Newcastle United striker Wissa sent the Uzbek goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. They took the lead in the 68th minute when Fiston Mayele tapped the ball over the line before the goalkeeper could stop it. Wissa sealed the victory with a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom right corner, completing DR Congo's comeback.
