England will play DR Congo in Atlanta in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. This match, as well as all other matches in this round, can be followed live on the BBC. At this stage, top countries such as Spain, Germany, Portugal and the host United States also take action.
The eighth finals of the 2026 World Cup start with an exciting poster: England against DR Congo. The BBC will broadcast this showdown in Atlanta live, with kick-off on Wednesday at 6:00 PM Dutch time. It is special for DR Congo, which is competing on the highest stage again after a 52-year absence. The team drew against Portugal and beat Uzbekistan, which entitled them to this unique knockout match.
In addition to England-DR Congo, the BBC also broadcasts other eighth final matches live. Spain and Austria will meet on Thursday, with the European champion aiming to win a knockout match at a World Cup since their victory in 2010. A day later, a top match is scheduled: Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal will play against Luka Modric's Croatia. With both Ballon d'Or winners turning 41 this year, there is a good chance it will be their last World Cup appearance.
Later in the week, Germany, four-time world champions, will play against Paraguay. Mohamed Salah's Egypt (against Australia), Norway with Erling Haaland (against Ivory Coast) and the host country United States (against Bosnia-Herzegovina) also face important challenges. Switzerland against Algeria completes the list.
BBC and ITV share broadcast rights for this stage of the tournament, each broadcasting eight matches. Live radio commentary is available via BBC Radio 5 Live. In addition, the BBC Sport app offers daily summaries and a new interactive 3D experience for live matches. Dutch fans can follow the eighth finals via international streams and summaries, in addition to updates via UEFA and FIFA channels.
