We will give our soul for Curaçao again against Ecuador


Curaçao will play the second group match at the World Cup on the night from Saturday to Sunday (2:00 am Dutch time). The Caribbean island of national coach Dick Advocaat takes on Ecuador in Kansas, with the historic goalscorer Livano Comenencia as the controlling midfielder. Comenencia is a guest in the new Blue Wave Podcast. The 22-year-old midfielder from FC Zürich will go down in history as Curaçao's first goalscorer at a World Cup. "Before the match against Germany, I dreamed that I was going to score, I prayed about it, and it just came true," says Comenencia in the VI podcast. 'It's so special. For Curaçao and for me. Guys here now say I'm a legend, but I can't believe that. People around me also ask: __do you realize what you have done for Curaçao__ with your goal? Maybe not quite yet.' The goal was the highlight during Curaçao's special first match, which was lost 7-1 against Germany. 'The result was less, but I am proud of how we showed courage with our boys, we did really well, especially in the first half. Of course you always want to win, but we certainly don't see it as a negative match. It was a beautiful and important lesson for us. Despite the 7-1 score, we introduced the world to Curaçao. With how we fight and give everything for our island. And the fans did that too. During the national anthem it seemed as if the entire stadium was full of Antilleans, fantastic. And after the goal it was really madness, what joy everywhere.' Comenencia, who went through the youth academy of PSV and then switched to Juventus, is enjoying the World Cup, but also realizes that a tough next opponent awaits in Ecuador. 'That will be a tough battle. Ecuador is also a physical opponent, they concede few goals. It's going to be tough, but that makes sense. It's the World Cup. And I'm sure we'll be ready for it.
