Portugal finished second behind Colombia in group D. National coach Roberto Martínez's team started with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo, in which Cristiano Ronaldo played all the minutes. This was followed by a resounding 5-0 win over Uzbekistan - with two goals from Ronaldo - and it ended with a 0-0 against Colombia. Despite the controversy surrounding Ronaldo's form, he remains a fixture in the Portuguese attack.
Croatia, the losing finalist of 2018, also finished second in its group behind England. Zlatko Dalić's team started with a 4-2 defeat against England, before beating Panama 1-0. In the decisive group match against Ghana, a 2-1 victory secured qualification for the knockout phase. Defender Josko Gvardiol can return to the starting line-up after his absence against Ghana.
The match will be played at Toronto Stadium, Canada, starting at 6:00 PM local time (12:00 AM Dutch time). The winner will qualify for the quarter-finals and will compete against the winner of Spain – Austria, who will also play their eighth final in Dallas on July 3.
