Surprise at Ipswich Town: success coach McKenna steps aside


Ipswich Town will not enter the Premier League with Kieran McKenna. After five seasons, the forty-year-old Northern Irishman has announced his departure from the club. McKenna was appointed manager of Ipswich in December 2021 and built an impressive CV at the club, including being promoted three times in four years. McKenna finished eleventh in League One in his debut season, was promoted to the Championship the following year and even to the Premier League a year later. Last season, Ipswich Town managed to gain promotion immediately after relegation. After five intense seasons, McKenna thinks it's time for something new. Not a new club, but a sabbatical. "It is with a mixture of gratitude, pride, sadness and satisfaction that I have decided to step down as manager of this historic football club," McKenna said via club channels. 'When you have the bond we have built at this club, there is never a good time to say goodbye. However, after the second promotion to the Premier League, with another memorable last day in our stadium, and after reflecting on the past few weeks, I feel this is the right time to step aside. "I do this with great pride in the incredible progress we have made and with enormous hope and optimism for the future of the club," he continued. “After doing so much for this club over the past five seasons, I'm looking forward to taking a break and spending some time with my family, who have supported me in every step of my career so far.”
