Somali Prime Minister supports referee Omar Artan after being denied entry to US for 2026 World Cup
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre expressed his support for referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was denied entry into the United States upon arrival in Miami. The reason has not been disclosed. Artan is the first Somali referee to be selected for the final round of the World Cup.

Barre expressed his support through his account on X. According to the Prime Minister, Artan's dream of refereeing at the World Cup has been postponed, but has not disappeared. Barre also thanked the World Football Association and the African Confederation for their long-standing appreciation of Artan's talent, integrity and dedication.
It was previously announced that Artan was found 'inadmissible' for entry into the US upon arrival in Miami. The American authorities have not given any further reasons for that decision.
Artan already made history by becoming the first Somali referee to appear on the World Cup list. The world championship will be played from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
