Scotland without three basic players in training for the crucial World Cup match against Brazil
Three key Scotland players, including Scott McKenna and Aaron Hickey, trained individually in Charlotte. With an important match against Brazil looming, national coach Steve Clarke's team does not yet seem completely fit.
Scotland may have to make do without three core players as they prepare for the all-decisive World Cup group match against Brazil. Defender Scott McKenna, right back Aaron Hickey and midfielder Lewis Ferguson did not participate in group training on Sunday and instead completed an individual program at the training camp in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Trainer Steve Clarke sees personnel concerns increasing. Hickey, who had to leave the field injured during the 1-0 win over Haiti, was also missing from the 1-0 defeat against Morocco in the Boston stadium. McKenna is struggling with a lingering calf injury and has not yet played in this tournament. Ferguson, on the other hand, played the full match against the champions of Africa.
Kieran Tierney, who suffered from cramps in the second half against Morocco last Friday, did return to group training on Sunday.
There is a lot at stake for Scotland on Wednesday in Miami. The team is already assured of third place in Group C and a draw against Brazil would almost certainly be enough for a historic place in the knockout stages. Even with a narrow defeat, Scotland retains a chance of reaching the next round, depending on the results in the other groups.
