Roy Keane fierce about Tuchel: 'He doesn't know what his best England team is'
Roy Keane believes that Thomas Tuchel still does not have a permanent starting XI for England, despite the 2-0 win over Panama that resulted in a group win. Tuchel made five changes; Bellingham and Kane scored the goals. England play in Atlanta in the round of 32 on Wednesday at 5pm UK time.
Roy Keane openly doubts Thomas Tuchel's plan for England. According to the former Ireland and Manchester United captain, “he has no idea what his best eleven is”, even though the English took full advantage against Panama on Saturday with a 2-0 victory and secured the group win.
In New Jersey it remained goalless before half time, but after the break Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane made the difference. With the win, England finished number one in the group and will face a round of 32 match in Atlanta on Wednesday at 5 p.m. British time.
Tuchel intervened firmly after the draw against Ghana and made five changes. The injured Reece James was missing; Jarrell Quansah came on for him, but suffered a knock himself. In addition, Morgan Rogers, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford were given a place in the starting line-up, while only Kane kept his place in the forward line.
“That's not good,” Keane said at ITV about the many shifts. "He keeps changing defensively, and that doesn't just apply to the wingers. In several lines. The pressure is on the attackers, but there are too many players who don't bring enough. Too many question marks, it's almost a coin toss who plays. These guys just don't do it."
Bellingham sounded more positive after his second tournament goal. “First task accomplished,” said the midfielder. “We came here with steps: after the practice matches, the first goal was achieved, as group winner.” When asked whether he liked his goal or the assist on Kane better, the Real Madrid player replied: "The assist. Nice combination and serving Harry again. He deserves everything he gets. You see his commitment as captain, his quality speaks for itself."
Kane also wrote history: with his eleventh World Cup goal, he is now the only all-time top scorer for England at World Cups, one more than Gary Lineker. In the round of 32, England will meet an opponent from the quartet of Senegal, DR Congo, Algeria or Austria on Wednesday.
