Riyad Mahrez writes history: oldest African assister at the World Cup after Roger Milla

Riyad Mahrez became the second-oldest African footballer with an assist at a World Cup in the Algeria-Jordan match (2-1) during the 2026 World Cup. Only Cameroonian Roger Milla (38 years old, 1990) was older when he provided an assist. After two group matches, Algeria has three points and is third in group J.

Riyad Mahrez recorded a special record during the 2026 World Cup. The Algerian striker was 35 years and 4 months old when he provided a decisive assist against Jordan in the group stage. This makes Mahrez the second African player aged 35 or older to provide an assist at a world championship.

Only Roger Milla was older: the legendary Cameroon striker was 38 years and 1 month when he provided an assist against England on July 1, 1990. The current record therefore remains in Milla's name. The dates have been confirmed by Actu Foot.

The match between Algeria and Jordan, played on June 23, ended in a 2-1 victory for Algeria. Thanks to this victory, Algeria occupies third place in Group J with three points after two games. The next group match for Mahrez and co is on June 28 against Austria.

The 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will last from June 11 to July 19.
