Reggina, no takeover by Rizzetta: "Conditions are no longer present"

Matt Rizzetta, the former owner of Campobasso, will not take over the Reggina from Nino Ballarino. This decision comes after negotiations failed to progress in recent days. Yesterday, the Italian-American entrepreneur's company announced that they were withdrawing from the negotiations with an official statement.

This statement reads: “In connection with the evaluation process initiated several weeks ago on the possible acquisition of Reggina, Underdog Global Partners ("UGP"), represented by Chairman Matt Rizzetta, has communicated, following the absence of a response by the stated deadline of June 15, that the conditions to proceed with the proposed transaction are no longer in place.

The deep respect for the city of Reggio Calabria, the supporters of Reggina and the history of the club, which represents a valuable sporting and identitarian heritage, remains unchanged.


Rizzetta would also like to thank all Reggina supporters for their support and encouragement during this period, which was marked by respect for the club's history and the passion of its people.

Although it was not possible to make this project a reality, the admiration and affection for the colors of Reggina remains unchanged, with the hope that the club, the city and its supporters can soon reach the podium they deserve again.”

In addition, Rizzetta spoke to a local channel - Reggio TV - and indicated that the current owner's decision not to respond to his offer may have to do with the involvement of another party, possibly Claudio Lotito. Rizzetta stated: "We have met all requirements, including the financial aspects, and have made an offer that goes beyond market value. We have not received updated documents for due diligence. We have provided proof of funds not only for the payment of the club, but also for the sporting project. Our offer is more than significant.

I don't believe the choice was economic; we have offered a huge sum of money with full guarantees. I am not aware of other parties' amounts, but it is difficult to match our proposal. Perhaps Ballarino thought that other projects could offer more guarantees in technical and project terms.”
