Real Madrid set their sights on Arsenal defender Hincapie, arrival dependent on outgoing transfers

Real Madrid continues to actively look for reinforcements at the heart of the defense this transfer summer. Piero Hincapie, Arsenal's Ecuadorian defender, is clearly in the picture for the Spanish superpower. According to ESPN journalist Rodra, new coach José Mourinho has already inquired about Hincapie's situation.

The arrival of an extra central defender, preferably a left-footed player, is desirable for Mourinho because Real Madrid is looking for extra quality and flexibility in that position. Nico Schlotterbeck was also previously considered as an option, but his injury at the World Cup has reduced that interest. Hincapie's name has since been put forward, while Ruben Dias (Manchester City) and Alessandro Bastoni (Inter) also remain in the picture.


Yet attracting Hincapie is not an easy matter. Arsenal recently took over the defender permanently from Bayer Leverkusen, after a mandatory purchase clause worth more than 50 million euros. Hincapie was not always a starter for Mikel Arteta's side, but made important contributions in both the center and left flank in the team that won the Premier League.

For Real Madrid, further incoming transfers depend on outgoing players. The departure of David Alaba has created space for the Madrid side, but Mourinho still has five central defenders: Eder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger, Dean Huijsen, Raul Asencio and Ibrahima Konaté. Real Madrid are willing to listen to bids for Asencio. Mourinho has given the green light for the defender to leave, possibly creating space for Hincapie.

Madrid's selection was already strengthened this summer with players such as Konaté, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries. However, further purchases will only be discussed when the selection has been further reduced. According to Spanish media, Hincapie's versatility and left leg make him the ideal reinforcement for Mourinho's defense.
