Peruvian media: Lapadula chooses Universitario, but contract with Spezia delays immediate arrival

In Peru it sounds unanimous: Gianluca Lapadula will play for Universitario de Deportes. According to the channel L1Max, the club from Lima, record champions with 29 national titles, has reached an agreement with the striker on a contract for one and a half years. Lapadula (1990) is said to have accepted all conditions and is eager to wear the cream shirt of the capital city team under trainer Hector Cuper.


However, the direct switch faces an obstacle. Lapadula is still in custody at Spezia until June 30. Universitario – and Cuper – would prefer to include the attacker in the selection immediately, so that he can be integrated towards the start of the Clausura on July 18. This requires an early dissolution with Spezia. It is reported that new consultations are planned for the night (Italian time) between the parties involved to find a solution that is workable for everyone.

For Lapadula, who has 42 caps and 10 goals to his name with the Peruvian national team, it would be his first appearance in the Peruvian competition. The striker with Peruvian roots through his mother has built his entire professional career in Italy so far, but now seems to be opting for a passage in Lima.
