Nico Schlotterbeck is aiming for a transfer to Real Madrid, despite interest from Liverpool
Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is on the list of Real Madrid and Liverpool this summer. Schlotterbeck himself would prefer to move to Real Madrid, partly to play together with compatriot Rüdiger. Mourinho has not yet made the final decision about the desired second central defender.
Real Madrid is looking for a second central defender this summer, in addition to the arrival of Ibrahima Konaté. Under the leadership of new head coach José Mourinho, a shortlist has been put together, which also includes names such as Ruben Dias and Alessandro Bastoni. Yet the priority seems to be with Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck.
The 26-year-old defender from Germany has a buyout clause of 50 million euros in the contract he signed with Borussia Dortmund earlier this year. This makes him a realistic option for top clubs this summer. Schlotterbeck is not only interested by Real Madrid, but also by Liverpool. However, CaughtOffside reports that the Germany international prefers a transfer to Spain. An important reason for this is his excellent relationship with Antonio Rüdiger, with whom he plays for the national team.
The prospect of being at the heart of the defense at club level with Rüdiger is very appealing to Schlotterbeck. Rüdiger has also stood up for his fellow international internally at Real Madrid. However, the Madrilenians have yet to finally decide who their desired second central defender will be. The new coach Mourinho makes the final choice.
If Real Madrid ultimately abandon a move for Schlotterbeck, Liverpool appear ready to pounce. Given his price tag and qualities, Schlotterbeck would be an excellent reinforcement for both clubs for next season.
