Napoli chairman De Laurentiis wants reforms: Serie A back to 16 clubs and new stadiums

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has called for a broad reform of Italian football. According to the director, a half-hearted adjustment is not enough and the entire system must be redesigned with a view to the future.
De Laurentiis particularly emphasizes the need for new, modern stadiums. According to him, the current football temples in Italy are outdated and the lengthy licensing circuit stands in the way of innovation. “The bureaucracy must be cut, we must stop obstructing new projects,” he said in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
In addition, De Laurentiis believes that too many matches are played. His proposal: reduce Serie A from 20 to 16 clubs. This would reduce the number of competition matches from 380 to 240 per season. According to him, this reduction should lead to more rest, better preparation and ultimately higher quality - also in the national team.
“One single reform will not get you there,” says De Laurentiis. “We need to re-establish the foundation so that we can build on it in the future.”
