Background

Mohammad Mohebi, a 25-year-old Iranian winger, has strengthened his role at HNK Rijeka with his recent performances. After an injury that hampered him at the start of the season, he now appears to be back in top form and could play a key role in Rijeka's ambitions in both the Croatian Cup and the Prva HNL.

Why this matters

Rijeka's victory in the Croatian Cup against Karlovac is crucial for their season outlook. With this win, the team confirms its strong form and shows the potential of new signings such as Mohammad Mohebi, who scored his second goal for the club. This kind of performance can increase the morale of the team and help them in the Prva HNL.

Mohammad Mohebi has further strengthened his good start at HNK Rijeka. The 25-year-old Iranian winger came on in a big cup win over Karlovac and made it 4-1 in the 85th minute, thus determining the final score. Mohebi came in after 66 minutes and was immediately decisive in the cup match with his running action in depth and cool finishing. It was his second goal for the Croatian club since his arrival.

The match in the national cup tournament was convincingly controlled by Rijeka. The home team moved further away in the final phase and saw Mohebi take care of the final score. For the Iran international it is a welcome confirmation of his form, especially since he suffered a heavy blow shortly before the start of the competition. Three days before the kick-off of the Croatian league, Mohebi suffered a back injury during training after a hard collision, forcing him to miss the first two league games. He has now recovered, is getting minutes again and is seizing those opportunities with efficiency.

Striking detail: Rijeka took part in a special shirt with a dragon motif, inspired by the legend of the Trsat dragon, a mythical symbol associated with the city of Rijeka. The special uniform was appreciated by the audience and made the evening extra memorable, especially because Mohebi scored his second for the club in this shirt. It also provides the club - where Dragan Skočić worked in the past - with extra attention outside Croatia.

For Mohebi, the goal fits in with an upward trend. The attacker had already scored his first goal for Rijeka in the same cup tournament and seems to have found his way to the net in Croatia. A new opportunity may soon await in the competition, with a fixture against title pretender Dinamo Zagreb in prospect. The match is a serious indicator for Rijeka and for Mohebi's battle for a permanent starting spot.

Mohebi also hopes to make himself visible again with the national team. The attacker, who is one of the favorites of national coach Amir Ghalenoei, missed itprevious international match due to administrative problems: his work visa had not yet been finalized, which meant he could not leave and return to Croatia. It is expected that he will come into the picture again in the next international match, especially if he continues to convert his minutes into goals and assists at Rijeka. For now, the cup victory with his late goal mainly offers confidence for the coming weeks in the Croatian league and the cup tournament.

What's happening now

Rijeka will now continue with confidence in the Croatian Cup and prepare for the upcoming league matches in the Prva HNL. Mohebi's growing impact on the team could be vital to their success in both the cup and league. The club will hope that this victory will give them a positive boost for the rest of the season.
