Marco Silva in advanced talks with Benfica about coaching post

Marco Silva is in advanced talks to become Benfica's new head coach. According to British media, Fulham's coach is close to an agreement with the top club from Lisbon.

Silva's contract with Fulham expires this month. The West London club has offered its Portuguese coach an extension, but Silva has not yet accepted that offer. In recent days, negotiations between Silva and Benfica have made considerable progress, making a final agreement seem within reach.


Benfica is working on filling the coaching position and wants clarity quickly regarding the preparation for the new season. A move from Silva would mean that Fulham would have to look for a successor, although there has been no official confirmation from Craven Cottage about a departure for the 48-year-old coach.

Silva has been at the helm of Fulham since July 2021, where he joined after his period at Everton. In his first season he led The Cottagers straight back to the Premier League. Last season, Fulham finished eleventh in the top English division, with 52 points - the same as Chelsea.

The coming days should determine whether Silva will actually return to his home country. As long as no definitive signatures have been made, a longer stay at Fulham remains formally possible, but all signals point to an imminent move to Benfica.
