La Liga president Javier Tebas has strongly criticized FIFA following its controversial decision not to suspend US striker Folarin Balogun for the 2026 World Cup. Balogun was allowed to play in the 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the round of 16 after FIFA's disciplinary committee decided to suspend his one-match ban for 12 months.The European football association UEFA, which has been in conflict with FIFA over various issues for some time, labeled the decision on Monday as "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable". However, outside Europe there has been little backlash from football officials about FIFA's decision. South American football confederation Conmebol backed its referee, Raphael Claus, after US President Donald Trump called him "a bit suspicious". The 63-year-old accused FIFA of being a closed system in which decisions are made before any voting takes place and without consultation with national leagues.
