Julian Alvarez hopes for €100 million promise from Atletico Madrid

The transfer issues surrounding Julian Alvarez are the most discussed topic in the transfer market this summer. The forward is still on Barcelona's radar as he has submitted a transfer request to Atletico Madrid. However, the Spanish giants insist interested parties must pay his €500 million release clause as they have no intention of selling him.

According to SPORT, Alvarez is operating under the belief that Atletico has made him a clear promise: if an offer of €100 million is received, the club would facilitate his departure. His comments after the match with Argentina, in which he openly hinted at his desire to leave, were not an impulsive action or a moment of frustration. Rather, they were calculated tactics to keep Barcelona's interest alive and force Atletico to fulfill their part of the alleged deal.


By going public, Alvarez has put the ball in Atletico's court and made it clear that his desire to move is much more than a simple rumor. Barcelona benefit greatly from this gesture as the club needed the player to make a public statement to have any chance of breaking through Atletico's resistance. Without this step, the operation would be in danger of fading into complete oblivion.

However, Atletico have responded by toughening their stance. CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has used Real Madrid's alleged stake to increase the asking price, with the club insisting on paying the release clause rather than the €100 million sum Alvarez believes he has been promised. Gil Marin is aware of Barcelona's financial limitations and has even publicly suggested that the Catalan club cannot finance this operation.

Barcelona's initial offer was around €90 million plus variables, with the intention to structure the payment in installments. However, Atletico considers this to be insufficient.
