Issa Soumaré starts a new adventure at Stade Rennais
Senegalese forward Issa Soumaré has signed a contract with Stade Rennais until 2030, following his time at Le Havre.
Issa Soumaré has decided to embark on a new adventure in Brittany after his contract with Le Havre expired. The Senegalese forward has signed a contract with Stade Rennais until 2030 and is ready to start this new chapter in his career.
Soumaré, who trained at the prestigious Académie Génération Foot - the same academy that has produced players like Sadio Mané and Ismaïla Sarr - came to France in 2019 to sign for US Orléans. In the National League he scored eight goals, after which he continued his career in Belgium with Beerschot. He subsequently played for Quevilly-Rouen and Le Havre.
On loan at Auxerre, he contributed to Ligue 2 glory in 2024, making 17 appearances. After returning to Normandy, he became a key player in coach Didier Digard's system.
Soumaré shows versatility by adapting to different attacking positions, whether as a striker, in a two-striker system or on the left flank. In the second half of 2025 he came on strong, with five goals and four assists. His team achieved the necessary points to secure themselves in the closing stages of the season, including an important 3-2 victory over Strasbourg, with Soumaré providing the assist for the equalizer.
He has been present in the past 52 matches in Ligue 1 for Le Havre. The 2025/26 season was crucial for his development; he played in all 34 Ligue 1 matches, starting 33 times. With his tireless efforts for the team, he finished the season with eight goals and five assists. Only once did he not start, against Monaco in January, but he came on in the second half.
What is special is that he wore the captain's armband in five matches, which confirms coach Didier Digard's confidence in him. Soumaré's continuity is evident from the fact that he has played in Le Havre's last 52 league matches.
