Iliman Ndiaye hopes to return to Olympique Marseille
Iliman Ndiaye looks back on his period at Olympique Marseille, where he did not fully develop, but indicates that his dream at the club from his youth has not yet faded. After a successful season at Sheffield United, the Senegalese opted for a transfer to Marseille in 2023, but failed to impress there. He now plays for Everton and is experiencing success in the Premier League, but he does not rule out a future return to Marseille.
Iliman Ndiaye said in an interview with France Football that he has certainly not closed the door to Olympique Marseille. The Senegalese forward discussed his disappointing first spell at his youth club, where he was unable to fully convince in the 2023/24 season. Ndiaye, who joined from Sheffield United after an impressive Championship season, faced a lot of pressure at Marseille. Despite 30 appearances (19 of which were as a starter), three goals and three assists were not enough to extend his stay.
Ndiaye told France Football: "On the day I signed, there was not only the player who wanted to take the next step, but also the child who dreamed. The reception from the fans was fantastic. But at a club like Marseille you have to perform quickly. It was difficult, but I didn't feel too much pressure. In fact, I just lacked experience at the top level, because I had only one professional season behind me."

The Senegalese hoped for patience to further develop in the south of France, but this did not happen. "When Everton showed interest, it was clear to everyone that I could leave. No one stopped me. Maybe if I had come two years later, with Premier League experience, the tide would have turned," said an honest Ndiaye. He is now doing well on Merseyside. Top English clubs are rumored to be interested, but Ndiaye keeps his eyes open on the future: "I believe that everything happens for a reason. My story with Marseille is not over yet."
Ndiaye also played an important role for Senegal, until the team had to surrender the African Cup title. He is currently focusing on the upcoming World Cup with Senegal, where the first match is directly against title favorite France.
