Hernanes: 'Italian football must restart in Naples, that's where the game really lives'

Former Brazilian international Hernanes, who played for Lazio and Inter, among others, has spoken out on social media about his recent visit to Naples. Hernanes was particularly impressed by the atmosphere and football experience in the city. "Italian football must start again in Naples. I have just returned from two days there, and every time I am struck by the enormous passion that people in Naples have for football," says Hernanes.

He continues: "In Naples, football is not just played, it is lived. Everywhere you see children and young people with a ball, whether they are young or older, they live the game. During my stay I started playing football in the streets, and local boys immediately joined me. Even young children recognized me, despite the fact that I never played for Napoli."

Hernanes calls it a special experience to experience football in the neighborhood of the Esposito brothers: "The best moment? Playing football with Salvatore and his brother Sebastiano, who were still arguing about a corner kick. In the Neapolitan neighborhoods you really feel what it means to experience the game as it is meant to be played - purely and with passion."

Finally, Hernanes praised the Neapolitan fans: "I would like to thank the supporters of Napoli, because even though I have never played for the club, I am always warmly welcomed. Anyone who really wants to know whether he has made an impression as a footballer should go to Naples. If the fans recognize you there, you know that you have left something behind. In Naples, football is life, football is passion."
