Hamilton celebrates first victory with Ferrari in Montmeló: 'Far beyond my wildest dreams'

Lewis Hamilton has won his first Grand Prix victory with Ferrari. At Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló, the Briton took victory and broke his longest winless streak since Belgium 2024. With the triumph, he also became the seventh-oldest driver ever to win a Formula 1 race.

Hamilton benefited from a virtual safety car and a tightly executed strategy during the race, after which Mercedes no longer had an appropriate response. In the final phase, Kimi Antonelli dropped out, causing Hamilton to reduce the gap to the Italian in the drivers' standings to 41 points.


“How do you find the right words for a feeling that goes beyond your wildest dreams?” Hamilton responded, visibly emotional. "I really believed in my choice for Ferrari and in what this team can achieve together. There was a lot of excitement, but also doubt and negativity all year long. My fans, family and friends got me through it. With all the changes at the start of this season, I am now here. I especially feel gratitude and pride for the people I work with: so passionate, humble and friendly. To see them singing along to the national anthem... incredible."

With his victory, Hamilton also wrote circuit history: it was his seventh victory in Montmeló, with which he passed Michael Schumacher (six). In addition, he now has thirteen podium places on the Catalan asphalt, also a record. “I've been dreaming about this since I was a kid. In 1996, Michael won here for Ferrari; I looked at that red car and wondered what it would be like to win in that car and be on that podium. There's nothing like it.”
