Gianni Infantino under fire: calls for resignation after controversies

De president van FIFA, Gianni Infantino, staat onder zware druk en wordt geconfronteerd met oproepen om af te treden na de controverses rondom de schorsing van Folarin Balogun tijdens het Wereldkampioenschap. Infantino en Trump hebben een langdurige vriendschap, die onder andere resulteerde in de toekenning van de eerste "FIFA Vredesprijs" aan Trump in december, tijdens de loting voor het WK. However, this political interference has led to fierce criticism within the football world. Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager, is one of the most outspoken critics. Former England striker Gary Lineker has also expressed his concerns. Infantino has been president of FIFA since 2016 and has been unanimously re-elected twice. Earlier this year, he confirmed his intention to run for re-election for a four-year term in 2027.
