Fenerbahçe trumps Roma in transfer battle for Mason Greenwood

The battle for Mason Greenwood's signature is reaching its climax. Fenerbahçe have increased their offer for the English attacker, approaching Olympique Marseille's asking price of around 50 million euros. The Turks seem to be doing better than AS Roma, which also wants to dig deep into its pockets but has so far lagged behind in the negotiations.


After an initial exploration, Roma had prepared an offer of 45 million euros including bonuses and a sell-on clause. But Fenerbahçe, which had previously agreed personally with Greenwood, has now made a new, higher offer, according to Turkish transfer expert Yagiz Sabuncuoglu. Club representatives from Roma have now also flown to France to speed up the matter, but it is expected that Fenerbahçe has the best chance of a quick deal.

Atlético Madrid is monitoring the situation closely, but the Spanish club must first sell players before a serious offer for Greenwood can be considered. The 24-year-old Englishman had an excellent season at Marseille, where he scored 26 goals and 11 assists in 45 official matches. It is striking that forty percent of the transfer fee in the event of a sale goes to Manchester United, Greenwood's former contractual home.
