Fenerbahçe confirms arrival of Nathan Aké from Manchester City
Nathan Aké exchanges Manchester City for Fenerbahçe. The defender spent six years at City, where he won twelve trophies, and now joins Fenerbahçe from Istanbul. The transfer was confirmed by both clubs and amounts to around seven million euros.
Fenerbahçe has officially announced that it has reached an agreement with both Manchester City and Nathan Aké regarding a transfer of the Dutch international. According to Turkish media, a transfer fee of approximately seven million euros will be paid for the 29-year-old defender. Aké came over from Bournemouth in 2020 and became a permanent fixture at City under Pep Guardiola, where he won four league titles, two FA Cups, two EFL Cups and the Champions League.
Aké was especially important in the 2022/23 season; he played the entire Champions League final against Internazionale and made 41 appearances that season. Last season, the left foot even made 44 appearances, 35 of which as a starter, in which he made 3,057 minutes and managed to win the Premier League again.
Nevertheless, there had been talk of a possible departure from Manchester for some time, partly because his starting place was not always guaranteed. Fenerbahçe, which finished second in the Turkish league last season behind arch-rival Galatasaray, has high expectations of Aké's arrival after twelve seasons without a national title. The club wants to compete for prizes next season and sees the Dutchman as an experienced reinforcement.
Aké, who played three times for the Dutch team at the World Cup and thus had an important share in the group win, will first report for the preparation at his new club in Istanbul. He continues his impressive career in the Turkish Süper Lig.
