EXCLUSIVE | Richard Dunne about Folarin Balogun: 'He really has himself Former Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne spoke to Get French Football News about some of the headline storylines surrounding the French national team during the World Cup. One topic that came up was the match between France and Paraguay, where Dunne examined the Paraguayans' tactics.

Dunne noted that given their inferior quality to France, Paraguay were forced to take a physical approach to take the French players off their game. “Paraguay is not as good as France, so they had to come up with something to upset the French,” said Dunne. "It is up to the referee to control the players and manage the match; they have sometimes gone too far. In the end, however, France had too much quality to lose."

In addition, Dunne also spoke about the impressive performances of some French defenders, such as William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano. "Both are excellent defenders. Saliba shows week in, week out that he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Upamecano is also very good, both in defense and with the ball at his feet," he said.

Dunne, who has a strong connection with Manchester City, also had something to say about Rayan Cherki, who hasn't made a big impact yet but has potential. "It's a team game and he has to be ready for when he gets more playing time. France's starting XI is strong at the moment and they are performing well, but Cherki is a top player who can be valuable in the later stages of games when defenses are tired."

Another important topic was Folarin Balogun, the AS Monaco striker. Dunne was impressed with Balogun both on and off the pitch. "I have a lot of respect for how he has handled himself, especially after the red card he received. The attention surrounding his situation was largely out of his control, but he has scored well for the USA. His performances in the World Cup will certainly highlight his quality to Premier League clubs," said Dunne. “I believe he can be successful if he moves to the Premier League.”
