Excelsior signs Daniël van Vianen (23): promotion from Dordrecht to the Eredivisie
Excelsior picks up Daniël van Vianen (23) from FC Dordrecht and signs him until mid-2027, with an option until 2028.
Excelsior Rotterdam has presented its third summer signing with the arrival of Daniël van Vianen. The 23-year-old midfielder comes over from FC Dordrecht and signs a three-year contract in Kralingen, with an option for one more season.
Earlier today, Excelsior signed Marlon van de Wetering for three seasons, after his breakthrough at FC Eindhoven. Kasey Bos was recently the first newcomer; it is rented from Mainz 05.
Technical director Mark Ruijl knows Van Vianen well from his period at Dordrecht. Ruijl, who succeeded Niels van Duinen at Excelsior, worked at the Kitchen Champion Division club last season and saw Van Vianen develop into a permanent fixture there.
Van Vianen switched from VV Groot Ammers to the Dordrecht youth academy when he was 12 and made his debut in the first team in March 2023. In May 2025 he suffered a serious knee injury, which kept him sidelined for almost nine months. At the beginning of this year he made his return and quickly regained a starting position.
The newcomer is a controlling midfielder who can also play as a number eight. He is two-footed and can therefore be used in several positions in midfield.
According to Van Vianen, the move to Excelsior immediately felt good. He already spoke with trainer Ruben den Uil and sees a clear role for himself: helping Excelsior find a stable place in the Eredivisie, with a view to further development.
Ruijl emphasizes that Van Vianen had been on the radar for a long time. The technical director praises his consistent performance at KKD level and calls him a complete midfielder who immediately adds more options, quality, experience and dynamics to the selection. Excelsior expects him to fit in perfectly with the way of playing and to make an important contribution to the club's ambitions.
