Erik ten Hag now rules out the Dutch national team coaching: "KNVB does not have to call"

During a World Cup broadcast, Erik ten Hag indicated that he aspires to be a national coach in the future, but is not available for the time being as he is committed to his two-year contract with FC Twente. Although several countries showed interest, the KNVB was not among them, according to Ten Hag.

During Thursday evening's World Cup matches, Erik ten Hag acted as an analyst for the NOS. The question was raised whether he sees himself as national coach of the Dutch national team in the future. Ten Hag responded cautiously: "I will not go into details of my contract. I have signed with FC Twente for two years and will fully focus on that during that period. The KNVB does not have to call me for that."

Nevertheless, Ten Hag hinted that being a national coach certainly appeals to him in the future. "I quite aspire to that. It has happened before, but not through the KNVB. If such a challenge arises, it would of course be great if you can experience it. I considered at the time: what is the quality, under what circumstances do you work, and who will you collaborate with?"

Furthermore, Ten Hag did not want to elaborate on the countries that knocked on his door. "There have been several national teams, both inside and outside Europe," said the former coach of Ajax, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen. For the time being, however, his focus remains on FC Twente.
