General manager Wilco van Schaik confirmed on Wednesday afternoon during an event in the city center of Nijmegen that the coach will remain with the club after this summer. With this, NEC management responds to recent speculation, partly due to the open position at Feyenoord after the departure of Robin van Persie.
Van Schaik was firm in his statement to ESPN: "I can say that he will remain 100 percent. Dick has already said that himself. We have a long-term contract. We have a goal and vision." The director emphasized the intensive cooperation between technical director Carlos Aalbers and Schreuder in recent weeks, as well as the daily contact between himself and the trainer. According to Van Schaik, Schreuder's entire focus is on NEC's performance for the coming season.
Van Schaik sees the fact that Schreuder opts for a longer stay in Nijmegen as a positive signal. "I think it shows that a trainer likes to work at NEC because he can profile himself well here. With European football on the programme, this season is a wonderful calling card for Dick. It is good for the club, the players and the trainer. NEC offers the perfect stage, also for him."
NEC can now prepare for a new season in peace with Schreuder at the helm, supported by the recognition that technical stability is a priority for the club.
