Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has spoken out about the commitment he and his team are showing to the Argentina national team ahead of the match against Cape Verde in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
"The coming match feels like the last. That's how I go onto the field every time, because that's how I experience it myself," said De Paul. "I am doing everything I can to ensure that this is not my last international match and hope that there will be more this summer. We pass this feeling on to the younger players: every time you wear the shirt of the national team, it could be the last. It is up to us to prevent that. Over the past eight or nine years I have discovered: the only way to continue wearing that shirt is to never want to stop and always give everything. We never hold back when we play for Argentina, regardless of the tournament or the opponent. Wearing the national shirt is the greatest honor you can receive."
The 2026 World Cup will take place in Mexico, the United States and Canada between June 11 and July 19. Argentina finished as group winners in Group J after three victories and thus convincingly qualified for the knockout phase.
