Darwin Nunez in career crisis: Liverpool not interested in returning

Darwin Nunez is in a difficult phase of his career, while Liverpool are listed as one of the teams that could be looking to launch a rescue operation. The current Premier League champions sold Nunez to Al-Hilal for an initial sum of £46 million last summer. Nunez started quite well in the Saudi Pro League, but his club career seems to have been on the back burner since February. Al-Hilal have signed Karim Benzema in a lucrative deal, leaving Nunez out of the Riyadh national team squad.


The 27-year-old attacker sees his place in the Uruguay national team in jeopardy, as head coach Marcelo Bielsa now considers him 'physically weakened'. Nunez received limited playing time at the World Cup and seems to be in urgent need of match rhythm. Despite these shortcomings, a deal for Nunez would be understandable for Richard Hughes and Liverpool. Al-Hilal are willing to terminate his £400,000-a-week contract, which could see Nunez return without transfer fees. Given his familiarity with Anfield and his ability to play as a centre-forward as well as on the left flank, this deal offers many advantages.

However, according to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool's sporting director has no intention of betting on Nunez's return. “Liverpool are not currently in the race to bring back Darwin Nunez, despite reports of their interest in recent weeks,” the report said. “He is still believed to be attracting interest from the Premier League, but a notable return to Merseyside is not on the cards at the moment.
