Chelsea signs Marco Palestra as the second summer signing from Serie A
Chelsea have presented Marco Palestra as their second summer signing. The Italian right back signs with The Blues until 2033, who pay 55 million euros for him. The club continues to build under new coach Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea introduced Marco Palestra (24) as their latest signing on Wednesday. The Italian right back makes the switch from Atalanta to London for a transfer fee of reportedly 55 million euros, an amount that could increase further through bonuses. Palestra immediately signs a long-term contract with the English club until mid-2033.
With this transfer, Chelsea continues to build a young selection. The Blues previously signed Geovany Quenda (19) for around fifty million euros from Sporting Portugal. Palestra, a two-time Italy international, has had a strong season with 37 league games for Cagliari, where he was on loan last year.
Palestra's arrival coincides with the recent appointment of Xabi Alonso as Chelsea's new coach. The Spanish coach, who has to improve on last season's tenth place, sees an immediate reinforcement in the right back. Palestra is enthusiastic about his transfer: "Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the world. I felt from the start that the club wanted me. The conversation with Alonso also gave me a good feeling; his way of playing suits me. We have a talented group of players and I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League."
In addition to Palestra, Chelsea already has Dutch international Jorrel Hato. Palestra was also in the picture at Internazionale this summer, but has now definitively opted for an adventure under Alonso in London.
