South Africa held the Czech Republic at 1-1 in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, but national coach Hugo Broos strongly criticized the opponent's approach afterwards.
"They don't like (combination) football. They play very straight and have players who match that. Everyone is tall, which made it difficult for us to play our game in the air," Broos said, as quoted by ESPN. "That's what the Czech Republic did: it's a tactic. I can't say why, that's a choice of the coach. Maybe I would do the same if I were their coach. But if you like football, you probably enjoyed our game today more than the Czech Republic's."
The group stage of the 2026 World Cup runs from June 11 to 27. Each team plays three matches in the groups. The first two countries from each group qualify for the knockout phase, supplemented by the eight best numbers three.
