Brighton reaches agreement with Tottenham over transfer Luka Vušković
Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement on the transfer of Croatian defender Luka Vušković, who will make waves at the 2026 World Cup this summer and stood out last season during his rental period at Hamburg. The transfer fee could be up to £50 million. Vušković was recently voted 'Young Player of the Season' in Germany.
Luka Vušković (19), one of the most striking young defenders of Croatian descent, moves from Tottenham Hotspur to Brighton & Hove Albion. The deal could amount to as much as 50 million pounds with bonuses, British media report. Brighton will initially pay £46 million to Tottenham, which has also agreed to a 20 percent sell-on percentage.
Vušković stood out last season during his rental period at Hamburger SV. There he played 30 official matches and broke the Bundesliga record for the number of aerial matches won (18 in a match against Union Berlin). His strong performances earned him a place in Get German Football News' 'Team of the Season' and the title 'Young Player of the Season'.
Vušković is currently with Croatia at the 2026 World Cup. His achievements have not gone unnoticed by Brighton scouts, because after an opening bid of £30 million - which Tottenham rejected - the club still managed to reach an agreement. A striking detail is that Tottenham recently acquired another defender, Jan Paul van Hecke, from Brighton for 52 million pounds.
With the arrival of Vušković, Brighton strengthens itself with a physically strong centre-back, who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in Germany and now also on the global stage.
