Belgium is biting its teeth at stunt keeper Beiranvand: 'That was fun in Curaçao, now less so'
Alireza Beiranvand excelled under the bar against Belgium, which did not score for the fourth World Cup match in a row. Thibaut Courtois expressed disappointment and is looking ahead to the decisive group match against New Zealand.
Belgium has been devastated by an excellent Alireza Beiranvand. The 33-year-old Iran goalkeeper made several crucial saves on Sunday evening and kept his goal clean. Despite a mediocre overall impression, national coach Domenico Tedesco's team created plenty of opportunities, especially through left back Maxim De Cuyper, but Beiranvand always got in the way.
The Tractor FC goalkeeper distinguished himself with a number of lightning-fast reflexes and thus prevented the Red Devils attackers from scoring. This means that Belgium remains without a goal for the fourth World Cup match in a row, a statistic that weighs heavily towards the remainder of the group stage.

Thibaut Courtois spoke afterwards at Sporza of visible disappointment in the Belgian camp. "Of course there is disappointment. It was also a bit quiet in the dressing room," said the 34-year-old closing post. Courtois emphasized that it was mainly the finishing that was lacking, but also credited his Iranian colleague: "Although I must say that their goalkeeper played the game of his life. Today, goalkeepers are important in football. Even goalkeepers in smaller countries can stop everything if you are not efficient enough. Once you get into the flow as a goalkeeper, you take one ball after the other. That is always nice to see, in Curaçao for example, but today it was less fun."
For Belgium, everything now comes down to the final match in the group. The Red Devils must absolutely win in the match against New Zealand and keep an eye on the result of the other match. Courtois again expects an opponent who will retreat en masse: "although it will again be against eleven men in the box." Efficiency up front will therefore be the key word for Belgium in the hunt for a place in the knockout phase.
