Arshavin chooses Ivory Coast: 'Norway stole a nice match from us' for 1/16th final World Cup 2026
Andrej Archavin hopes for a win for Ivory Coast against Norway in the 1/16th final of the 2026 World Cup. The former Zenit player stated that the Norwegians stole 'a nice match', referring to a possible clash with France. Both countries finished number two in their group with six points.
Andrei Archavin has spoken out in the run-up to the 1/16th final of the 2026 World Cup between Norway and Ivory Coast. The former international and former Zenit Saint Petersburg player hopes for a victory for the African team and publicly questioned Norway.
"I am in favor of Ivory Coast winning. I think the Norwegians have robbed us of a great match." When asked whether he was referring to a possible France–Norway poster, Arshavin replied in the affirmative. "They have also already made statements that they are preparing for Ivory Coast," he said on the YouTube channel 'Eto futbol, brat!'.
Norway qualified for the knockout phase with six points and finished second in Group I. Ivory Coast also collected six points and finished as number two in Group E. The meeting in the round of 32 promises to be an interesting showdown between two teams that came through the group phase solidly.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. The title holder is Argentina, which was too strong for France (4-2) in the 2022 final after 3-3 in regular time on penalties.
