Andre Onana again on loan to Trabzonspor after a disappointing period at Manchester United
Andre Onana returns to Trabzonspor on a rental basis after a disappointing adventure at Manchester United. The Cameroonian goalkeeper lost his place under the crossbar and was unable to get another chance under new coach Michael Carrick. At Trabzonspor, Onana had a successful season, contributing to third place in the Turkish Süper Lig and winning the Turkish Cup.
Andre Onana is well on his way to being temporarily contracted again with the Turkish Trabzonspor. The Manchester United goalkeeper, who played on loan in Turkey last season, is on the eve of a second loan period at the same club. Onana made 33 appearances for Trabzonspor last year and contributed to third place in the Süper Lig and winning the Turkish Cup.
Since coming to Manchester United in 2023, taken over from Inter, Onana has not been able to become a regular under the bar. After losing his starting place, first under coach Ruben Amorim, his name appeared less and less on the scoresheet at the English top club. Even after the arrival of Michael Carrick as head coach, the Cameroon international was not given another chance.
In the meantime, Senne Lammens has become important for Manchester United. The Belgian goalkeeper, signed for the 2025 season, has quickly developed into the first choice under the bar. United seems to be looking for additional reinforcement in goal this summer, but does not see a second goalkeeper for the new season in Onana.
A new loan means that Manchester United will once again be unable to recoup part of the 43 million euros paid for Onana at the time. Onana still has two years left on his contract in Manchester, but his last appearance dates back to August last year in the lost Carabao Cup match against Grimsby Town.
