Only Casillas above Unai Simón: Spanish goalkeeper equals Zubizarreta with fourth World Cup match without conceding a goal

Unai Simón equals Andoni Zubizarreta with four World Cup matches without conceding a goal after Spain – Saudi Arabia (4-0); only Iker Casillas (7) has more.

Unai Simón has reached a new personal milestone at the 2026 World Cup. The Spain goalkeeper kept a clean sheet again in the second group match against Saudi Arabia (4-0), making it four World Cup matches without conceding a goal.

With that number, Simón equals club icon Andoni Zubizarreta, who also went without conceding four times at the world championships. Remarkable: Simón did this in his first seven World Cup matches, while Zubizarreta scored four clean sheets in sixteen World Cup appearances, spread over four final tournaments. The current World Cup is only the second final tournament for Simón.

In Spanish World Cup history, only Iker Casillas is now above the current first choice: the 2010 world champion recorded seven games without conceding a goal in four World Cups (17 games in total).

The victory over Saudi Arabia was also Simón's anniversary match: his 60th international match for Spain. In those 60 matches he scored 48 goals and kept 26 clean sheets.
