Captain Djamal Ziane extends contract with 1. FC Lok Leipzig

Djamal Ziane, captain and figurehead of 1. FC Lok Leipzig, has extended his contract by one year. Despite recent disappointments in the promotion matches, he has once again chosen the club he has been associated with since 2014.

Djamal Ziane will remain the mainstay of 1. FC Lok Leipzig next season. A few days after the club disappointingly missed out on promotion to the 3. Liga for the third time, the 34-year-old captain has extended his contract for at least a year. After the last loss in Würzburg, Ziane's future was still uncertain. The veteran is the only player to experience all three defeats in the promotion matches of 2020, 2025 and 2026. Shortly after the match, Ziane said that the desire is still there: "I feel good, but it's getting harder and harder."

The club management is happy with the retention of their club icon, who has already worn the Lok Leipzig shirt 352 times since 2014. Sporting director Toni Wachsmuth praises Ziane: 'I have rarely experienced someone who exudes such a club feeling as Djamal at Lok Leipzig. We are very happy that he will continue for another year and continue to play an important role, especially towards young players.'

Ziane himself declares that he is proud to be part of the 'Loksche family': 'This club means a lot to me. The energy and perseverance of the employees, volunteers and fans makes this community special. The fact that I can be part of it for another season fills me with pride. I look forward to many more beautiful, shared moments.'
